Ilish Kanchkolar Jhol (Hilsa Fish with Raw Banana Curry)

We all know that ilish fish is really yummy and tasty which can be prepared in multiple ways. This is one of the delicious yet easy to prepare recipe that is a great accompaniment with hot steamed rice. If you want to get the original flavour and smell of Hilsa fish, then this would be the right choice of cooking instead of ilish fish in mustard sauce.
Ingredients
- 4 to 5 Ilish fish pieces
- 1 potato cut into thick batons
- ½ large sized raw banana cut into thick batons
- 1 tsp Kalonji or Nigella seeds or Kalo Jeera
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 4-5 green chillies slit
- 2 Tbsp mustard oil
- 1 Cup of warm Water
- salt as per taste
Method
Step 1
1. Marinate the fish with turmeric powder and with some little salt. 2. Take a small bowl, add turmeric powder and salt and dissolve it in little warm water to form a paste. Keep it aside. 3. Now, heat 2 Tbsp oil on a Kadai or pan and add Kalonji or Kalo Jeera and 1 green chili. When they splutter, add potato and raw banana. 4. Cook for 5-6 minutes and add turmeric paste and rest of the slit green chilies. Mix well and cook for another 1-2 minutes. 5. Now add 1 cup of warm water and bring it to a simmer. When the Jhol starts boiling, add marinated ilish fish pieces. 6. Cook for 7-8 minutes in lower flame or more until the potatoes, raw bananas and ilish fish cooked properly. 7. Check the taste and I required and more salt and green chillies.
