Alu Kabli
2015-12-10When I used to be a school going kid, I used to have this chaat because of its tremendous taste and excellent aroma of tamarind. My mom used to scold me for this but I could control my temptation of having a small bowl of alu kabli from street food.
Ingredients
- 2 Large size potatoes boiled
- 1 Medium size onions chopped
- 1 tsp roasted cumin powder (jeera guro)
- 1 tsp roasted cumin powder (jeera guro)
- 1-2 Green chillies chopped (kancha lanka)
- 1 Tbsp Chickpea (Chana Dal)
- 2 Tbsp Tamarind Chutney / 1 medium size tomato
- 1 Tbsp water
- Salt as per taste
- 1 Tbsp coriander leaves chopped
- 1 tsp lime juice
Method
Step 1
1. Cut the boiled potatoes into cubes. 2. Soak the chick peas overnight and boiled it till soft. Drain and rinse well. 3. In a bowl, add 2 Tbsp of Tamarind chutney, 2 Tbsp water, 1 Tbsp roasted cumin powder, 1 Tbsp red chili powder, finely chopped green chillies and little salt as per taste and mix everything very well. However, as I don’t want to use tamarind because of the acidity problems of my family, I use tomatoes and other ingredients instead of tamarind. But it is recommended to use the tamarind to get the exact street food Alu Kabli taste. 4. Now, in another large bowl, assemble potatoes, onions, boiled chickpeas, chopped coriander leaves and sprinkle little salt and mix them well. Now, add the prepared tamarind paste with masala into the potato mixture and squeeze little limejuice on it. Mix everything very well and let it sit for 5 minutes. 5. Now, serve this in a bowl.
