Ingredients

  • How to Make Gatte
  • ½ tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp Curd
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Pinch of baking soda
  • 1 tsb cooking oil
  • For Gravy
  • 2-3 tomato chopped
  • 3- Green chilies
  • 1 tsp Chopped ginger
  • ½ cup Fresh curd
  • ¼ cup fresh cream
  • Pinch of asafetida
  • ½ tsb cumin seeds
  • ¼ tsb turmeric powder
  • ¼ tsp chili powder
  • ¼ tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leave for garnishing

Method

Step 1

How to make Gatte
Take a bowl and strain besan in it. Add oil ,salt, cumin seeds, curd , salt , baking soda in it and mix it well . Add some lukewarm water to make a knead and soft dough similar to chapattis. Cover it with muslin cloth and keep it aside for 15 minutes.

Step 2

Now make small lumps from the dough and 3-4 inch long do it same of rest of the dough .

Boil 5 cups water in a vessel and put all the rolls in it. when the water starts boiling, boil them on simmer flame for 10 minutes. Turn ff the flame and take out the Gatte from the water and put in a plate. When the gatte settles down or cools down, cut it into small chunks of about ½ inch and now the gatte for the sabzi is ready.

Step 4

How to make gravy
Add roughly chopped tomato, green chilies and ginger in a mixture grinder and grind them. Strain the mixture in a bowl, now grind curd and cream into grinder and churn nicely.

Step 5

Heat oil in a wok(kadai) Add asafoetida and cumin seeds in it. After sauteing the seeds, add turmeric powder, coriander powder and ground tomato mixture in it. Sauté it till the oil is floating on the surface. Now add curd and cream, mix it well, add chili powder and keep cooking in it till oil starts separating from masala.

Step 6

Add water into the gravy (as per the consistency required) as per preferences. Add the gatte and salt when the gravy starts simmering. Cook it for 2-3 minutes more and the besan ke gatte recipe is ready to serve. Garnish it with some fresh coriander leaves.

Step 7

Best served with steam rice, paratha , naan and chapattis.
